Misunderstanding Gatekeeper
A lot of people have seem to misunderstood what Gatekeeper does in OS X Mountain Lion. Gatekeeper does not prevent you from running apps that are not signed by Apple developer, what it does is it will warn you with a dialog box when you try to do so. Note that this is similar to how Safari and other web browsers warn you when you have just downloaded an executable from the internet. I have not...

Don't Fall in Love With Your Technology →
James Hague: Don’t fall in love with your technology the way some Forth and Linux advocates have. If it gives you an edge, if it lets you get things done faster, then by all means use it. Use it to build what you’ve always wanted to build, then fall in love with that. (Via Ronald Suwandi)

Mountain Lion
Yesterday, just seven months after Mac OS X Lion was announced, Apple announced their next major OS update: OS X Mountain Lion 1. As John Gruber wrote, OS X is going to adpot iOS style one major update per year development schedule. I don’t think in the PC history, any companies has ever promised this rapid OS development schedule. I can’t help but think that this kind of development...

Samsung's Galaxy Note is the most useless phone... →
Jonathan Geller: The phone is too big. You will look stupid talking on it, people will laugh at you, and you’ll be unhappy if you buy it. I used to have this phone many years ago: I looked so stupid talking to it, I thought everyone has learnt the lesson.

Apple Updates iBooks Author With Better EULA... →
Matthew Panzarino, reporting for The Next Web: Apple has updated its iBooks Author app in order to clarify the language of its End User License Agreement. The changes to the EULA clarify that Apple does indeed intend the packaged product to be sold on the iBookstore only, but also make it clear that it does not lay claim to the content that you use to create the book, nor does it try to limit...

Apple’s iPhone Business Alone is Larger Than All... →
MG Siegler, on parislemon: It looks like Apple’s business is mainly about iPhone. And while it’s true that the iPhone is responsible for over half of Apple’s total revenue, it’s important to consider that Apple’s total pie is now significantly larger than Microsoft’s. Actually, it’s more than twice as large. Last quarter, Microsoft brought in $20.89 billion in revenue. Apple brought in...

Apple’s Rank in Mobile Phone Profitability and... →
Horace Deidu of Asymco: Apple reached 75% of profit share, nearly 40% of revenue share and 9% of units share. Not the number one in unit share, but number one in revenue and profit share. Which measure is more important?

Mac OSX Lion’s Scroll Breaks the Web →
Pablo Villalba: The back page or forward page action mode triggers when you start scrolling when you can’t, and stays locked until you stop scrolling or you navigate to another page. In Safari and Chrome, you won’t get the back/forward page action until you release the fingers from the trackpad. This way the user can peek forward or backward and see if there’s anymore content...

Apple’s Quarterly Results Visualized →
Amazing interactive JavaScript chart by Francesco Schwarz. I’m bookmarking this for future reference. Oh, for those of you iPad doubters, try comparing the growth of iPad to any other Apple’s product line. Imagine what it’ll look like if it keeps growing like that for the next few quarters. Apple's Hiring of an Outsider is Out of Character →
Jordan Golson reporting for MacRumors: The entire executive team at Apple, aside from the just-hired Browett and Bruce Sewell, Apple’s general counsel, has been with the company for more than 10 years. Aside from the general counsel position, Apple’s leadership team has remained fairly consistent through the second Steve Jobs era. Tim Cook sounded pretty confident to say that...

Why I Love Apple - An Email from Tim Cook →
Yesterday Tony Hart sent and email to Tim Cook regarding his latest hire, John Browett. Cook promptly replied the email explaining his decision. It’s not that every CEO has to reply emails from customers, but it’s such a powerful gesture.
